The Retraction

Fire Attack ‘not racial’

A report that Molotov cocktails had been thrown at a house in Dalmeny Street was scaled down considerably yesterday.

Queensland Police Services’s media service issued a statement saying that explosive devices had been thrown at the house, fuelling speculation of racist motives.

However, Superintendent Toowoomba District Officer Tony Wright said some accelerant had been poured on the steps of the home.

“We have interviewed the residents of the premises they have provided us with information and possible lines of inquiry which indicated it is not a racially motivated incident,” he said.

Minor damage was done to the front door of the house but the fire was out when crews from both Toowoomba fire stations arrived.

Police investigations continue.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The mysterious "neighbour" also appeared on Channel 9 WIN news on April 27 claiming he had alerted the family and extinguished the fire. Our modest "hero" appeared on screen with his face conveniently obscured.
So there we have it! A person or persons unknown slopped some petrol on a doorstep and lit it. No "'FIRE BOMB" just a little fire that could be easily stamped out by an ever vigilant and heroic "neighbour".
Hmmmmm!!! Call me cynical but you don't think the mysterious "neighbour" should be "assisting the Police with their enquiries" do you?
Just a thought...
